Frequently Asked Questions about the 2020 TinySeed Application

The application for our 2020 batch of startups has been open for almost two weeks now and we’re so excited to see many amazing applications roll in.

We’ve gotten quite a few questions so we thought we’d respond here to the most frequently asked.

Should solo founders apply?

Absolutely! Our inaugural batch actually has a 4:1 ratio of  solo-founder to two-founder teams.

Should I apply if I don’t yet have revenue?

We’re looking for companies who have proven there is a need in their market, and revenue is the best indicator of this. If you haven’t launched yet, then we’d like to see other indicators of traction — number of signups for your email list, extensive previous experience in the area, pre-order signups, etc. If you’re at the idea stage and haven’t yet been able to do any marketing for your idea, then we’d recommend applying for a future TinySeed batch.

Is prior funding a deal-breaker?

Prior funding is not a deal-breaker, but due to our unique terms we would prefer to be the first money into a company. Prior investors are likely to make this process more challenging, but still possible.

Do you only fund U.S.-based businesses?

We’re a remote accelerator so our founders can live in any country, as long as they’re okay with attending TinySeed’s calls (which are scheduled during North American business hours).

That said, your company entity needs to be registered as, or converted to, a U.S.-based entity when you join TinySeed, if it’s not already. We hope to change this in the future, but at this point it's due to the challenge/cost of navigating laws in any of the 200+ countries in the world.

This is definitely not a requirement for your application. If you don’t have a U.S. corporate entity, we can talk to you about the process when it makes sense.

When are interviews? When does the next TinySeed batch start?

Our applications are open through November 29th, we’ll be interviewing through December, making decisions in January starting the next batch in Spring of 2020.
